Therapy Frequently Asked Questions

How do I contact you?

Please email us or call our office at 905-689-8721 ext. 601.

What can I talk about in my therapy sessions?

Our therapists can help you to address issues such as anxiety, depression, self- esteem, anger and mood disorders. They can also help you navigate stressful relationships, attachment issues and social dynamics. You can also receive help with grief, loss, abuse, trauma, and PTSD.

What can I not get therapy or support for at Eagles Nest?

At this time, we are unable to provide specific support or therapy for addictions, severe eating disorders, psychotic disorders, or personality disorders. If you need support for these conditions, you can reach out to our Program Team if you need some recommended resources.

What if this isn’t a good fit?

Our primary goal is always your positive mental health and that you feel comfortable in your sessions. If you wish to try another therapist, please let our program team know and we will facilitate that change. If Eagles Nest is not the right resource for you, we will try and assist you in finding an alternate resource.

Can I access this program more than once?

After you have completed your 15 sessions if you need further mental health support, we can make recommendations or refer you elsewhere. If you have accessed care from us previously and it has been more than 4 months since your last appointment, but you feel that you would benefit from another 15 sessions, you may contact our office to reapply to the program.

How long is a therapy appointment?

Our therapy appointments are typically 50 minutes.

What days and times can I book an appointment?

Please call or email our office about appointment availability.

What is your cancellation and no-show policy?

We require a minimum of 24 hours' advance notice of an appointment cancellation. We understand that sometimes cancellations cannot be helped, however please note that if you fail to cancel your appointment without giving at least 24 hours notice or if you do not show up for your scheduled appointment, your missed or late cancelled appointment will count as one of your 15 subsidized sessions. In addition, you will be charged a $5 cancellation fee that will be due before your next appointment.

We understand that illness can arise unexpectedly and can prevent you from meeting with your therapist in person. If this is your situation, please contact our office as soon as possible to switch to a virtual appointment or reschedule.

To cancel or reschedule your appointments, please contact our office directly by phone at (905) 689-8721 ext. 601 or email us.

Please note that if you haven’t scheduled and/or attended an appointment in the last 3 months, you will have to reapply to the therapy program and be placed back on the waitlist for an appointment. As well, if you do not show up to an appointment or fail to give more than 24 hours' notice of cancellation three consecutive times, you will be placed back on the waitlist for an appointment.

What if I have to reschedule my appointment?

We understand that you may need to reschedule an appointment from time to time. Please contact our office at least 24 hours in advance of your scheduled appointment to reschedule.

What is the referral process?

We are a self-referral centre and do not require a doctor or therapist's referral for you to access our services. Please contact our office directly to start the intake process.

Do you provide emergency or crisis support?

We do not provide emergency or crisis support. If you need crisis support, please dial 988 for the Canadian Crisis Helpline, call COAST at 1-877-825-9011 or call 911 for emergency services.

How do I support my child or teenager who is in therapy?

You can help your child by respecting their privacy, having non-judgmental and open conversations and empathetic listening. Understand that therapeutic treatment takes time. They may need your help to maintain consistency with their appointments.  If their appointment is in person and you are driving them, try to ensure that they have a calm and relaxed ride to and from their appointment. If they are meeting virtually with their therapist, provide a quiet and private space for their session. As well, they may need assistance with practical needs like making sure that they aren’t overtired or hungry before their session.

What if my child or teenager doesn’t want to go to therapy?

Never pressure or force your child to attend therapy. If your child or teen has questions or expresses fears or concerns about therapy, talk to them about it and try to address the questions they have. You can help remove barriers for your child by answering their questions and validating and addressing their concerns.

If your child will not attend therapy, but you need support as a parent or guardian, please reach out to us so that we can try and help you find the resources you need.

Is child and youth therapy confidential?

Yes, anything a child or youth shares with a therapist in a session is completely confidential. We cannot share any information about a client with anyone including a parent or guardian unless a client has notified us otherwise.

In the event that a client's safety or the safety of others is at risk, the proper authorities will be notified by the therapist.
