Child Therapy Frequently Asked Questions
How do I contact you?
Please email us or call our office at 905-689-8721 ext. 601.
How does child therapy work?
Our therapists utilize a variety of techniques when working with children. This may look like using art, play or other creative or recreational tools to facilitate therapeutic exploration and learning.
Is child therapy confidential?
Yes, anything a client shares with a therapist in a session is completely confidential. We cannot share any information about a client with anyone, including a parent or guardian unless the client has given consent.
In the event that a client shares intent to harm themselves or others, the proper authorities will be notified by the therapist.
What can my child get therapy for?
Children of any age can benefit from therapy. They can receive support with difficult family dynamics, trauma and abuse, social skill development and emotional communication and management. Children can also work through loss, grief and develop skills to build resilience.
What can my child not get therapy for?
At this time, we offer general therapy for children and are unable to provide support for specific conditions such as eating disorders. If your child is currently receiving professional support for those conditions, we are happy to come alongside those therapists and provide support for their general mental health. If you need support for these conditions, you can reach out to our Program Team if you need some recommended resources.
What if this isn’t a good fit?
Please let the Program Team know if you feel that your therapist is not a good fit for your child. Our primary goal is always to maintain their positive mental health and that they feel comfortable in their sessions. If we are not the right resource for you, we will try and assist you in finding an alternate resource.
