Lori Grundy, Jitterbug Café: A Great Cause to Support

Coldest Night of the Year is a chance to make a difference and raise funds to help support mental health services right in Waterdown.

An added benefit is the opportunity to visit local businesses along the route and enjoy complimentary food and drink. When it's February and it's chilly, the thought of a steamy mug of hot chocolate seems pretty enticing.

Providing that complimentary cup of cocoa during the 2km or 5km walk is a local eatery on Hamilton Street in Waterdown called Jitterbug Café. Since 2020, Jitterbug's owner, Lori Grundy has opened her doors to the participants and offered up warm drinks and muffins. This year, she's looking forward to the return of even more walkers.

"I love it, it's a lot of fun," Lori says. "My daughter Victoria and I serve the walkers and we like seeing all the different groups that come out. Like last year there was a little boys' hockey team that came in and they were very respectful. It's just awesome to see the community come together."

Several businesses participate in the event and for those walking, it's a chance to experience places they may not have been to before.

“It's positive all the way around," adds Lori. “Actually, Jitterbug wants to put a team together this year and we have a bunch of customers willing to do it. It's a great cause to support."
