Brooke Gordon, Soroptimist: A Chance to Reconnect
By Julie-Marie Innes, Communication Volunteer | January 15th
Service to others has been Brooke Gordon's focus for many years, so it's no surprise she would be an active advocate for Eagles Nest and Coldest Night of the Year.
The Waterdown resident is a member of Soroptimist International, an organization devoted to supporting and mentoring females and their families by providing funds for empowerment and education.
"Our Soroptimist chapter in Waterdown meets virtually with other members locally and across the world, but this Coldest Night of Year Walk is really nice for us to be a part of because it's an in-person event and it supports Eagles Nest which we care about," says Gordon.
Her involvement with Eagles Nest goes back to 2006 when the Soroptimists volunteered and sponsored the work of Drummond House. Raising funds and awareness while helping others care for their mental health, has always motivated her.
"The walk is so well organized, it's easy and it's a low-pressure activity," she adds. "Stopping for a cup of hot chocolate on the walk or a snack is also a really fun way to get into some of the businesses that you know about, but don't always go to. Getting a chance to reconnect with others in the community is just really lovely."
