Andrew May, Tea at the White House: The Impact is Huge
By Julie-Marie Innes, Communication Volunteer | January 22nd
Tea at the White House in Waterdown is known for its mouthwatering scones and they have become a delicious attraction for participants in the 5km walk during Coldest Night of the Year.
"We call them our English Sweet Scone," says store co-owner Andrew May. "It's a recipe from the original owners, Jill & Wendy, and we have not altered that recipe. We know how good it is."
The store is just one of the rest stops along the 5km route offering complimentary snacks for walkers.
"It's such a unique experience," adds Andrew. "It's fun to see everyone in their toques. We provide hot tea and scones with cream and jams. It's a little treat and pick-me-up midway through."
Funds raised during the early evening walk go to the mental health services that Eagles Nest provides.
"It's one night and the impact is huge," says Andrew. "It's no secret that a lot of people go through mental health challenges. So many need access to services and they don't have the means. This is raising funds for such a good cause. It benefits people in this community and we want to support them as much as we can."
